Blockchain Should Take Into Account Russian Mentality — CEC Head
The authorities of the Russian Federation want to replace the term "blockchain" with a more understandable Russian analog, the TASS news agency reports.
On October 29, at the conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the country's electoral system, Ella Pamfilova, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation, proposed to change the name "blockchain".
During the conference, one of the participants spoke in favor of using decentralized technologies for the development of the electronic voting system. Thus, the probability of any falsification during the elections is reduced to zero.
In response to this speech, Pamfilova expressed the assumption that Russian citizens need some rebranding of blockchain, so that “it would take into account the [Russian] mentality".
The head of the CEC believes that in Russia, the word "blockchain", consisting of two parts, is perceived rather depressingly. Thus, the words "block", which is associated with something closed, and "chain" are together distorting the understanding of the term for the citizens.
Pamfilova claimed that in order to better understand how to rebrand this term, it is necessary to study the sphere of decentralized technologies thoroughly and introduce a Russian word that will be clearly understood by the country’s residents.
In general, at the conference, the chairman of the CEC paid due attention to the issue of renaming facilities related to voting. For example, she suggested renaming the ballot box, referring to the fact that this wording of the term “causes unpleasant associations”.
As previously reported, the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation expressed the assumption that cryptocurrencies will disappear from the financial market soon.
