Presidential Candidate In Nigeria Promises To Support Crypto
Atiku Abubakar, candidate for the president of Nigeria, promised to strengthen the local economy with the help of blockchain and cryptocurrencies if he wins the elections in February 2019, DailyPost reports.
The representative of the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) introduced his election program in which he intends to use new technologies for the rise of Nigeria. With their help, the country will be able to respond to the “challenges of the 21st century economy", the politician assures.
To do this, Abubakar will organize the development of a “comprehensive policy” towards blockchain and digital currencies. It will make these industries easily regulated and create jobs for the local residents. Also, the new economic strategy will bring funds to the state treasury and improve the incomes of the Nigerian citizens, Abubakar states.
The politician emphasizes that the crypto sphere requires control, and he will hand it over to the relevant country's authorities. Abubakar added that the regulation will provide clarity, and allow making thought out decisions on the industry with a $278 billion turnover.
Also, the presidential candidate promised to adopt studying of information and communication technologies at schools and higher educational institutions of Nigeria. Due to this, there will be the country's own blockchain specialists.
Previously, the government of another African country urged scientists to cooperate in the blockchain sphere. Tanzania invited researchers to study blockchain and develop favorable regulatory standards for this technology.
