Ripple May Become Official Currency Of 2020 Olympics
The Ripple token (XRP) can be declared the official currency of the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
To apply to the International Olympic Committee on the subject of the official crypto, the petition has been created on the Change.org website. It is aimed to gather the necessary number of votes.
Former baseball player Ken Takahashi, the creator of the initiative, filed a petition in early 2018 emphasizing the success of Ripple. As of October 9, the document has already collected 11,279 signatures.
By means of his petition, the Japanese baseball player intends to draw the attention of the International Olympic Committee to the importance and effectiveness of cryptos. According to Takahashi, it is very important that foreign guests who come to Tokyo don’t have troubles due to exchange transactions with foreign currency. In order to avoid massive yen use in exchange operations, Ken believes that the best solution would be to introduce the XRP token as a special currency for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
According to Takahashi, at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, there was a significant increase in demand for national currency, which resulted in the endless lines at currency exchange offices because of the huge flow of foreign visitors. Besides, an unstable exchange rate and frequently arising language difficulties only aggravate the situation.
As stated in the petition, the XRP token is a reliable and surefire way to solve these problems. Using it during the Olympic Games can also help to solve many logistics problems, such as transfers, hotel accommodation, etc.
As previously reported, Japanese banks launched an app for instant payments on Ripple blockchain.
