Italian Postal Service Takes Interest In Blockchain
Poste Italiane, an Italian postal provider, became a part of the Hyperledger blockchain consortium, Cointelegraph Italia reports.
Poste Italiane stated that entering Hyperledger coincides with their new business plan, one point of which is adoption of new technologies in the company's activities. The Italian post intends to accomplish these steps by 2022.
First of all, the company considers blockchain a solution to issues of data protection, privacy of users, and operational transparency.
Previously FedEx, one of the largest American delivery services, also became a member of the Hyperledger project. Back then, the company’s head Fred Smith insisted that blockchain was of great importance for the supply chains and logistics.
Hyperledger is looking to develop standards for the use of the distributed ledger technology in various industries and businesses. The initiative was founded by the Linux Foundation in December 2015, and during this time more than 260 companies have cooperated with it.
Hyperledger is gaining more popularity among large firms from the financial market. Major players like Intel, Huawei, financial conglomerate JPMorgan, and Russian Sberbank are among its supporters.
In the meantime, the Italian authorities have endorsed a regulatory amendment that clarifies some points in the regulation of the blockchain sphere. This is one of the first steps of local regulators in attempt to control the country’s blockchain space.
