Buterin Announces Transition To Ethereum 2.0

18:58 01/11/2018

Vitalik Buterin, one of the creators of Ethereum, announced at the DevCon4 conference in Prague the upcoming transition of the ecosystem to the development stage of Ethereum 2.0, which will be called Serenity, ForkLog reports.

Before the big upgrade, there will be several changes, including the activation of the Casper solution, adoption of the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocol, sharding, as well as an upgrade of the virtual machine.

Buterin believes that all these innovations will help speed up the operations carried out in the Ethereum blockchain and make it more secure. The scaling will also be improved, and it will be possible to perform over a thousand transactions per second.

The Casper update has been under development for more than one year. The solution should help the network transition to the PoS algorithm. The entire project was called Shasper for a while, due to the possibility of combining with the scaling option in the form of sharding, but Buterin believes that Serenity is a correct name.

Serenity can be called a global computer, and this is hardly the smartphone from the end of the 20th century on which it was possible to play “snake”, the founder of Ethereum stated.

Apart from the announcement about the transition to Ethereum 2.0, Buterin, along with other DevCon4 participants and the crypto enthusiast Jonathan Mann, sang a jocular song dedicated to developers calling to work and not to carry out initial coin offerings.

As previously reported, Enterprise Ethereum Alliance presented at the DevCon4 conference new specifications for the developers, who use private iterations of the Ethereum network. https://blockspoint.com/news/dlt/ethereum-software-development-standards
