Atari To Release Blockchain Versions Of Popular Games
Atari, a major American game developer, will re-launch two of its products on blockchain. To do this, the company cooperated with the firm Animoca Brands, which creates mobile games based on such technologies as DLT and artificial intelligence, and is also a distributor of blockchain game CryptoKitties in China, the press release reports.
The partners signed a license agreement to re-issue Goon Squad and RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch on blockchain applications. The latter has been downloaded by 19 million users across the globe. The partnership will last until 2022, and the blockchain versions are scheduled for the second half of 2019.
In is noted in the agreement that Animoca Brands will as well supply the applications with non-fungible tokens (NFT) that are usually used in games as cards or collectible items. It is not yet known how much funds will be spent on developing the DLT-based games, but the company has already received an advance of $250,000 from Atari.
Atari was founded in 1972 and is known as the creator of the cult games Tetris and Pac Man. The video game series, RollerCoaster Tycoon, in which users have to build an amusement park, has been released on various platforms since 1999, and the famous mobile app RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch first appeared in the App Store in 2016.
The American company also announced the release of its own Atari Token, but this cryptocurrency is not yet available for purchase.
