ElaadNL Creates IOTA-Based Solution For “Smart” Power Supply
The tech firm from Holland ElaadNL published an announcement on its website that it has completed the proof of concept demonstrating the potential of smart electric vehicle supply system using the IOTA Tangle software, which is focused on the Internet of Things (IoT).
The concept allows smart systems to both absorb power and generate it, as well as distribute it among users autonomously. The product is built on the IOTA Tangle system, which enables chargers to independently determine whether their work is needed during the load balancing within the network.
Moreover, charging devices can mine the IOTA digital coins while supplying power-driven vehicles with electricity at low speed or at a time unpopular for trafficking. Devices using the technology will be connected to a transformer, and as the energy consumption of devices decreases, they will receive the IOTA tokens.
Harm van den Brink, a specialist at ElaadNL, explained that the concept demonstrates the possibility of creating a more advanced electricity model in the future, in which decentralized devices are able to balance the distribution of energy independently among users. According to him, this is a shift to a new level at which energy is not only absorbed, but also generated.
The ElaadNL project was established in 2009 by a team of network engineers to create the infrastructure of electricity-driven automobiles with the possibility of intelligent charging. Since then, the team has equipped more than 3000 charging stations within the Netherlands.
As previously reported, the Danish state-owned energy company Energinet has signed an agreement with the blockchain project IOTA for the research and application of its capabilities in the power industry and others.
